Nebraska's Safe Haven law is revealing something extremely important about our country: services for children with bi-polar disorder and other disabilities are severely lacking.

Of course, parents of children and adults with disabilities knew this all along. There are gaps in services that are leaving many families desperate for help. Many mental health programs have been lost to budget cuts. The thing that people in general do not know is that there is no safety net for these families. The alternative to not receiving services is exactly what is happening in Nebraska.
Desperate times call for desperate measures, as they say. I hope the world does not judge these parents harshly. More than that, it is a call for change.
